Carp on the BA

"The Carp is the queen of rivers; a stately, a good, and a very subtil fish; that was not at first bred, nor hath been long in England, but is now naturalised."

Carp on the BA

Postby chrisfishy » 30 Jun 2012 20:11

Hi all.

Hope everyone has had a good start to the opening of the season, fished Queensfield and had a brace of chub, rolling meat...no barbel though.

Anyway, I am after a bit of advice.
Does anyone know any good spots on the lower BA for river carp? I'm thinking the Crane / Swineford / Jack Whites end.

I had heard Frys was always a classic spot, but now that it's out of action and the hot water pumps are off, someone told me the carp have moved on?

If anyone has any pointers, can you pm me?

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
There's a good head of carp I believe in the slower stretches at Avoncliffe. I always intended to have a go specifically for them but somehow always ended-up after the Barbel ;)

I've heard the same recently, seems like the place to head for a first!

The daft thing is, I have an Amalgamated licence and only stick to the same old places. Think I need to get out more!

i have fished the avon cliff section for a couple of seasons now and have never seen a carp there not even in freshford which is slower and is where i would think they would hold up.
i would'nt mind having a go at a river mudpig myself

I've seen a few very big Carp over the years in the Limpley Stoke area, but never specifically fished for them.

I think Rob landed one a while ago though........Rob????

Of course I love barbel fishing, but nice to go for something different every now and then. You can’t have too much of a good thing and all that!

I’ve spent the last 3 years fishing for barbel and forgot about pretty much every other species in the river.

Although, I have got pretty well aquatinted with chub and bagfulls of bream on the lower BA!!

Never had anything over 12lb from around Limpley (biggest witnessed was 18lb) BUT seen bigger earlier in the season...

(Photo only shows one of four fish taken in the close season around Limpley area, although I reckon the big ones are still around Keynsham area... might be harder to find now the outlet of frys has been turned off...)
