Postby chissie » 16 Oct 2012 16:03

The 'How Long is a Piece of String Question'! Has anyone got any suggestions/tips/experiences on barbel rods for fishing around Lacock? Im looking for something up to about £100 mark.Probably 1.75ib test curve with a spare avon tip.
Any advise would be appreciated. CHEEEEERS DAVE

Hi Dave

You wont go far wrong by visiting Keynsham Angling Centre and speaking to Nick....He has a good stock of rods at various prices as well as being a mine of information to boot. ;)
Happy hunting.

All the best Pete

I don't envy you Dave. It is a hard job finding the perfect rod, shame you can't try before you buy. I use an old Wychwood Barbel Rod I got off e-bay & absolutly love it, but that was just luck. I know a couple of people who use Fox rods & are very pleased with them. My advice would be to go to a tackle shop & take your reel, set it up, get the owner to hold the end of the line & bend into it to see how the action feels. By taking your reel you will also get a feel for how balanced the set up will feel on the bank.
Good luck & let us know what you go for

Fox Drennan Korum Shimano but I'm not the biggest fan of Grey's. Do you require a quiver tip?

another thumbs up for the original wychwood barbel. pick one up for 40-50 quid off the bay and spend the rest on bait/fuel..!

hi, i wouldnt reccomend greys either.. but am sure others would... just go to tackle shop and try some out, rods are very personal.. a bit like wives and farts.. you can bear your own but not others and visa versa..

Many thanks for the advise. Yes I would like multi quiver tips as I dont want to miss those finicky chub bites even when using a barbel rod. I currently use Shimano(feeder/float) and Greys(carp)- in defence of Greys, they seem to work ok when I hit a 20IB carp under the rod tip on dog biscuit! Looks like a trip over to Keynsham is on the cards(unless Ebay can produce a couple of wychwoods)! CHEEEERS DAVE
