Planning a new rod purchase...

Postby Tipster28 » 13 Feb 2010 16:13

Afternoon all - looking for some words of wisdom.

I'm planning on treating myself to a new barbel rod for the year ahead; I'd been planning on spending around £60-80 and had come up with the following:
Dean Macey Tri tip
Grauvell Specialist HT
Wychwood rogue

Does anyone use/have an opinion on these?
Also should I consider saving a few more pennies to up the budget, am I going to get a significantly better rod for say £100?

Rods are a nightmare purchase, such a personal thing. I have got one of the original wychwood barbel rods recently in 1.5lb tc which seems like a good rod, but yet to catch a fish on it.
What about the Korum 3G barbel rod in the classified section    . Good rod for when it is up, but I found it a bit stiff for normal conditions. Yours for £35.00.

Cheers

Wychwood rods are always superb value for money - I'd go for the 1.75lb Rogue.

Thanks, do you think a quiver top is essential though? Or is the tip on the Rogue sensitive enough?
I managed to win £45 on the horses this afternoon from a £4 bet :D so may use my winnings to increase the budget. The Greys Prodigy Barbel at £100 looks good value...

thanks for the comments.
Always interesting to hear some opinions as shopping online isnt the greatest way to chose a rod :)

A Trefor west rod is a bit beyond me, but I think I'm going to try and find a shop stocking a few of these rods and go and take a look. Its worth a drive to Bristol I guess just to have the rod in my hands.
