Whats in your bag?

Postby mandingo » 06 Sep 2010 21:10

After attending the Avonbarbel fish in, it became fairly obvious that I'm carrying far too much gear, for a day's angling.
I use an US army 'alice' pack, and in it are.....
A small tackle box (8" x 6") with all the essentials and bits in it
A small (ish) Tupperware box with all the bigger bits, baitdroppers, headtorch etc etc
A rig bin
A Pva tube system
Featherweight scales
A set of waterproofs
Unhooking mat/sling
Insect Repellant
Hat/Sunnies
Compact Camera
A pot of hookbaits
Then normally on top of this, a Thermos and a couple of 'sarnies'.

So, in my quest to lighten the load, my question is...

.....What's in your bag?

Andy

Hey Andy,

That's pretty much the same as I carry, although I note that you seem to have missed 5Kg groundbait, 60 Embassy No1 and a used copy of Razzle from your list

Personally, I've found that by keeping one's landing net, unhooking mat and sling dry during a session, considerable weight savings can be made

Nige, That reminded me, I also carry a couple of 'Catty's'

And for a full days fishing like we had on the Severn
A quiver with 2 rods, 4 banksticks, landing net handle, and normally a 45" brolly
and a low chair (a new one 'cos I've lost the old faithful on the BA recently  )
I think the problem was the amount of bait I took on saturday, which I'm too embarrased to recount now, but hey ho! used it all in the end, So the walk back was considerably lighter :D

Martin, I've arrived home from many an outdoor excursion looking like the elephant man (more than usual, some would say!) after being feasted upon by many a nasty, so now I "never leave home without it" :D :D

Hi Andy,
What you need is an Oliver.... he comes in useful for carrying the extra bits and you only need to mention fishing and he's there, also able to get replacement pellet drill when asked and swap the task for a can of coke... amazing... available in one size only and can be grumpy but worth his weight....
regards
Mike.

I know Mike, he gave me a hand on the Severn :D :D
