Thanks Thommo, My mate Phil always uses a fixed lead and to be honest he is catching a few more than me. I personally think that there is not much of a difference but I think confidence when fishing counts for alot and if in your mind you think its right you get better results.
I personally fish a leadcore helicopter rig, so my rig I guess comes under the fixed lead category although there is some movement in it before the lead is felt so I am thinking it would be considered as a bolt rig?
I used a bolt rig until recently, and just switched to a semi-fixed (with a leger stop about 5" from the swivel). Because of the cold conditions I haven't yet been able to gauge its effectiveness but I reckon (not really sure it this is sound logic ) if a fish feels less initial resistance, it's more likely to take the bait. What d'ya think?
Well l usually use a fixed lead with the safety clip and tubing 2 small bullets to peg it down above the tubing..10lb ml and a 15lb braid hooklink size 10 or 8 barbless ESP hair rig for pellets... Fish close in with my 10 ft nash stalker...sorted...
But when l was freezing at the don last week l lost everything first chuck in a snag had to go back to a running rig...still no bites..
i do use both but my preference is the running rig, try to keep it as simple as possible, run ring stopped by a rubber bead above the swivel with the lead on a quick change link.......
