Got myself a new 'Pin ;)

It's a J.W. Young & Sons BJ Lightweight - been after one for ages.

Light as a feather - and I love it :D

You've got a beautiful piece of engineering there Nick, and like you said about Nigels.....It'll be a shame to get it wet :)
I've only got a humble Okuma but manage to keep it in pristine condition by not catching anything and always making sure the unhooking mat is ready to catch it if I miss the rod rest.
The other ruse I use to keep all my gear in tip-top condition, is to break my arm so that I can't go fishing anyway. :( Thank god it happened at the start of the close season.....It was my rod arm, so I'm trying to do everything left-handed.......Tricky, to say the least (cleaning teeth etc).
Any way , it has put paid to my ideas about doing a bit of fluff flinging during the close season.

Cheers Pete

Hi Kentpaul,

Welcome to the Forum - and what a cracking reel you have ;)

The Walton 'pin is lovely big hunk of a reel, but, as you say, a lot of money.

Having said that, the RRP of my BJ lightweight isn't to far short of that at £300.00, and there's a

20 year old Dave Swallow Pin on Ebay at the moment at £220-odd with a couple of days still left.

What is it with these crazy centre-pins.

I have a couple of Speedias which I love use for trotting and I was lucky enough to win a Wide Drum deLuxe on ebay at a reasonable price. It was knackered when it came to me but I have had fun helping it come back to life. The float screw was seized and the screw driver slot had sheared off, it had been dropped and was buckled as a result and the paintwork was in a terrible state. I have spent hours trying to sort it and feel I have got it into an attractive and useable state. It has been stripped of its crusty paint, the screw remains, drilled out and the buckled spool has been treated with a hammer! It spins freely without too much wobble and looks great.

Now all I have to do is find a BA barbel and coax it in to casting range!

Regards,

Simon

That'll be a real success story when you get a Barbel on that reel, Simon ;)

So, how many of our members will be taking a centre pin for their first outing to the river this season???

I certainly will.
